responsible for the impact-absorbing crumple zone, which debuted in 1951. Even
with such a monumental invention, the engineers didn't rest on their ores. In
1971, the brand received a patent for the air bag, followed closely by the
creation of the anti-lock braking system in 1978. This trend of innovation
continues to today, when Mercedes-Benz has created the ultimate in collision
avoidance systems -- Intelligent Drive.
