Best Electric Luxury Cars Coming in 2022

The days when electric vehicles were a worthy but limited choice are well and truly over. Over the last few years, the high-end EV market has gone from strength to strength, with advances by big names such as Tesla expanding the entire segment while other more established automakers rush to complete. The 2022 model year seems set to be the most impressive yet for luxury EVs, with several upscale sedans and crossover SUVs arriving to leave electric buyers spoiled for choice. Here are six of the best models on the near horizon.

 

1) BMW i4

 

 

Previous BMW forays into the EV market sometimes delivered great performance but unusual designs. The i4 is a return to more standard form, with a high-class sedan adding great looks to exceptional specifications. The standard model will boast 335 horsepower and around 450km of range, with the high-end trims giving a huge 536 horsepower for searing acceleration.

 

2) BMW iX

 

 

The upcoming iX is BMW's showcase for their newest and most advanced EV technology. Expect the most impressive features to show up in this model before migrating to the rest of the ever-expanding EV range. To begin, the first iX will push out 500 horsepower for a 0-100kmh time below five seconds, alongside an estimated 450km of range.

 

3) Mercedes-Benz EQS

 

Based on the successful S-Class lineup but with an all-new electric platform, the EQS marries breathtakingly good looks with an upscale interior and high-end performance. The model will debut boasting 329 horsepower, rear-wheel drive, and more than 550km of range, although specifications will improve even further as more models are added to the lineup.

 

4) Audi Q4 e-Tron

 

 

The Q4 e-Tron will be the most affordable way of buying into the Audi EV range. Performance details have yet to be confirmed, but expect a range heading north of 400km, a fast 10-minute charge time, and an output of around 300 horsepower. However, the most intriguing aspect of the Q4 e-Tron is Audi's promise of augmented reality technology in the cabin.

 

5) Audi e-Tron GT

 

Staying with Audi, the e-Tron GT promises an altogether higher specification, with an output of 637 horsepower, a 0-100kmh time of 3.1 seconds, all-wheel drive, and a range of 380km. And as you'd expect from a flagship Audi, the interior will offer the highest of high-end experiences to take this model into genuine luxury EV supercar territory.

 

6) Lucid Air

 

 

Lastly, Lucid is aiming to knock Tesla off their perch in the futuristic, luxury EV market. Their first model is the Air, combining impressively streamlined looks with a range of up to 800km. However, it's the performance figures that really impress, with an output of 1,080 horsepower rocketing the Air from 0-100kmh in just 2.5 seconds.
