How to Buy a Used Lamborghini

How to Buy a Used Lamborghini

Even in the rarefied world of supercars, the Lamborghini brand stands for something very special indeed. Over the years, models from the Huracan to the Miura have offered an unbeatable sense of supreme style married to genuinely excessive performance levels under the hood.

But if you're looking to buy a used Lamborghini, it's important to know what you're getting into before parting with your cash. Thanks to their exclusivity and high sticker prices, it's not always easy to get a used Lambo in great condition for a reasonable price, and buying a relatively low-cost model could lead to disappointment.

So to help you approach buying a used Lamborghini in Toronto in the right way, we'll take a close look at two popular models, and lay out what you can expect from them.

1) Lamborghini Gallardo

The Gallardo was built over a period of a decade, lasting from 2003 to 2013, and in the process became the best-selling ever model in Lamborghini history. This means that there are a healthy number of used Gallardo cars on the market, at least by the exclusive standards of Lamborghini.

The Gallardo is powered by a reliable V10 with a displacement of either 5.0L or 5.2L, depending on the model year, with outputs reaching an astonishing 562 horsepower and 398lb-ft of torque in the higher-end models. Rear-wheel drive was standard across the range, with a choice of either a six-speed manual transmission or a six-speed automated manual.

The result is a 0-100kmh acceleration time reaching as low as 3.4 seconds, with top speeds breaking the 325kmh barrier.

If you're buying a used Gallardo, there are two main points to look out for. The extreme power and low-slung profile means that a careless previous owner may have damaged the lower parts of the bodywork. Also, the high g-forces the car is capable of producing mean the suspension is under a lot of stress, which can lead to problems in older models not driven with care.

2) Lamborghini Countach

The Countach is perhaps the most instantly recognizable Lamborghini around, with its profile almost defining the supercar shape through the 1970s and 1980s. But despite its age, it still boasts impressively modern and sleek looks that will continue to turn heads for years to come.

Under the Countach hood you'll find a huge V12 engine with displacements ranging from 4.0L to 5.2L, with the peak output levels reaching a mighty 736 horsepower and 646lb-ft of torque. The fastest Countach models could race from 0-100kmh in 4.5 seconds, barely pausing for breath before maxing out at an exhilarating 335kmh.

But if all this sounds tempting, don't get your hopes up too high. Less than 2,000 of these iconic cars were ever built, and finding a used model at anything other than a stratospheric price will be very difficult.
