Should You Buy a Used Porsche Macan or Cayenne?

Porsche may be best known for their high-end sports coupes, but they also produce a great selection of luxury SUVs that bring the same performance levels and comfort in a convenient format for daily driving. Two of the best examples of this format are the Macan and the Cayenne. Which of the two makes the best-used car to buy? Read on to find out.

 

Powertrain and Performance Options

 

The Cayenne is the larger of the two SUV models, and as such is available with stronger engine outputs than the Macan on the higher trims. However, both cars pack a powerful punch under the hood. A typical Macan has a turbo engine producing around 250 horsepower and 273lb-ft of torque, although at the top end there's a 2.6L V6 turbo that pushes out 434hp and 406lb-ft.

 

The typical base-level Cayenne boasts a 3.0L V6 engine making 335 horsepower and 332lb-ft, although those with a thirst for high performance will love the high-end 4.0L V8 which cranks out 541hp and 568lb-ft.

 

There's no overall winner when it comes to performance. The Cayenne's figures are better at the top end, but the Macan's smaller size means it still delivers all the agility and aggression you'd expect from a Porsche.

 

Interior Features

 

Both the Macan and the Cayenne offer a luxurious interior for every trim. The standard Porsche ten-speaker audio system is fitted on both models, and the Macan can upgrade to a 14-speaker Bose system. In contrast, the top-level Cayenne option is a mighty 21-speaker Burmester premium array.

 

Both cars have substantial infotainment features available, depending on the age of the used model, but in general, the Cayenne's touchscreen will be larger compared to the equivalent Macan and offer more features as standard.

 

Both cars' interiors are well designed and finished in high-quality materials, and both can be upgraded with a wide range of options including leather seats, suede or chrome trims, and more. Both SUVs will provide plenty of comfort for drivers and passengers, and with such a wide range of options available, you're sure to find your perfect mix in a used model of either car.

 

Cargo Space

 

Cargo is the one area where there's a clear winner. The Cayenne's larger size means it offers roughly a quarter more space for carrying goods than the Macan, although the difference is smaller when the back seats are folded flat.

 

Pricing

 

While both cars are available in a variety of trims covering different price levels, in general, the Macan sports a lower price tag than the Cayenne. However, both SUVs will give you plenty of value for your money when you buy them used.

 

Buying a Used Porsche Macan or Cayenne: The Verdict

 

If you're looking for a high-performance luxury SUV, both the Cayenne or the Macan make great choices. With its larger size, the Cayenne has the edge when it comes to everyday convenience, and at the high end, it's also a more powerful option. However, great deals are available on used models of both Porsche SUVs, and neither will disappoint even the most demanding drivers.
